About the Author
Leonard Jacobson is a modern mystic and spiritual teacher who is deeply committed to guiding and supporting others in their journey towards wholeness. He was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1944. He was educated at the University of Melbourne, graduating in law in 1969. He praciced law until 1979 and then set off on a long journey of spiritual discovery which took him all over the world, from the United States to the Middle East, India and Japan. In 1981, he experienced the first of a series of spontaneous mystical awakenings that profoundly altered his perception of life, truth and reality. Each of these experiences took him to deeper and deeper levels of consciousness. He has been running workshops and retreats for the past 16 years, offering inspiration and guidance to those on a path of awakeniong. His teachings and his Presence are a powerful reminder that the source of life and truth is within each one of us. He now lives in the USA and offers workshops and retreats in various locations around the country.

The Real Deal

Leonard Jacobson's writing reminds me of a friends observation - "People with knowledge write books. People with wisdom write poetry". Leonard has wisdom. Most pages have short paragraphs that carry an essential truth in a digestible form. If you like Ekhardt Tolle' you ought to read this. It's clearer and somehow communicates deeper.

Read if you're ready...

We all know that there is an inevitable contradiction in trying to live in the present moment. Because trying involves some extent of dissatisfaction of the present state, the moment we try to do anything, we cease to live in the present moment. Although I have no doubt that this book, along with many other books that are designed to help us live in the present moment was written with the best of intentions, there is no way around this contradiction. The most writers, teachers, and leaders can do is help people become more aware of their own experiences and hope they are ready for such a transformation in their consciousness. This book is indeed a book that helps us do this (if we are at the right stage). If you are reading this review, you are most likely interested in this material and perhaps you are interested in it because you are ready for such a transformation (or perhaps not). If you truly feel in your heart that this book is right for you at this time, it may help you transform your life. If it does not feel right, I might recommend "The Ever-Transcending Spirit" by Toru Sato since it speaks to a wider range of developmental stages. Sato's fascinating book is quite revolutionary and it might change your understanding of life quite radically so be warned if you decide to read it.

I loved this book.

I caught the tail end of a radio interview with the author talking about this book. I thought it would be one of those "stop and smell the roses" numbers. It was that, but soooo much more. The author shares what he learned while going through a series spiritual "awakenings". The core concept he emphasizes is the importance of embracing the present: being in the moment as opposed to obsessing about the past or imagining the future where fear, neediness, anger, expectation and hurt reside. He explains that there is peace and love in the present. He also writes about control, the fear of being alone, relationships, judgement and the roles they play in our lives. As I was reading this book, I was reminded of a Zen saying that I had heard once, "When the student is ready, the teachers will come". I feel stronger, calmer and more centered as a result of reading and adopting the concepts in this book. I was really searching for that in my life. O! ne cool thing is that this book seems to speak to that part of you that already knows the truth, but is usually ignored once "reason" and reaction take over.

About the Author

Francisca de Haan is Professor of Gender Studies at the Central European University,
Budapest, Hungary. Her publications include The Rise of Caring Power. Elizabeth Fry and Josephine Butler in Britain and the Netherlands (Amsterdam University Press, 1999), co-authored with Annemieke van Drenth; and A Biographical Dictionary of Women’s Movements and Feminisms. Central, Eastern, and South Eastern Europe, 19th and 20th Centuries (Central European University Press, 2006), co-edited with Krassimira Daskalova and Anna Loutfi.

June Purvis is Professor of Women’s and Gender History, University of Portsmouth, UK. Her publications include, Emmeline Pankhurst: a biography (2002, Routledge), and The Women’s Suffrage Movement: new feminist perspectives, co-edited with Maroula Joannou (Manchester University Press, 1998 and 2010).

Margaret Allen is Professor Emerita in Gender Studies, University of Adelaide, Australia. Her publications include, as coauthor, Fresh Evidence, New Witnesses Finding Women's History Adelaide, (Stateprint, 1989) and Limited Access: Women's Disadvantage in Higher Education Employment (NTEU, 1995).

About the Author
Bruce W. Tuckman is professor of educational psychology at the Ohio State University, where he is also Founding Director of the Walter E. Dennis Learning Center. Tuckman is an American Psychologist, who has carried out seminal research into the theory of group dynamics. In 1965, he published a model of group development called Tuckman’s Stages, with stages of Forming, Storming, Norming, and Performing. In 1977, he added a fifth stage named Adjourning. Tuckman's current scholarly interest focuses on the topic of motivation: its manifestation in the form of self-regulatory behavior, and its absence in the form of procrastination, particularly as applied to the behavior of studying. He is building a model linking motivational factors to school achievement, and is examining specific interventions that enhance the self-regulatory behavior of students. He is also interested in study strategies that help students learn from text.

Brian E. Harper is associate professor of educational psychology at Cleveland State University. A former classroom teacher in the Philadelphia , Pennsylvania public school district, Dr. Harper completed his doctoral work at The Ohio State University in Educational Psychology. His research interests include African American racial identity development and motivational psychology, particularly as it applies to students in urban settings. His current work focuses on African American students and the factors that promote or inhibit academic self-regulation.

After taking research courses for undergrad work, master's work, and now doctorate level work, I finally am coming to understand the process of designing and conducting research. Conducting Educational Research is concise and very clear, giving 1-2-3 descriptions that bring understanding.

Too Wordy

Too wordy. Not at all straightforward in explaining research fundamentals. Really only appropriate for classes on education, but even then, there are better books out there. In addition, the kindle version doesn't have a table of contents, so it's very hard to navigate. This book is being used in a graduate class I am required to take for my degree (not education related). I already took research fundamentals courses as an undergraduate. It's clear that this textbook is leading to an unclear understanding of concepts for my current fellow students who have less of a research background than myself.

A gem

In a world where a programming book that you bought last year is usually already out of date this year, this is a lovely scholarly book about true computing fundamentals that will still be as valid in ten, twenty, thirty years as it is today. There is no immediate, practical, work-related reason for you to buy this book. But if you truly love the core elegance of computing and programming, this book is a gem that is worth reading slowly, carefully, and many times over.

A popular book, valuable but flawed introduction to stock screening; consider paying for the current edition.

A couple of reviews I read before purchase claimed that there was not much new material in the fourth edition compared to the third. Those reviews are not correct. There are a several new strategies tested and (somewhat) improved presentation of the data.

When the first edition came out it was a pioneering attempt to quantify various well-known trading strategies through backtesting. That was pretty valuable! Now, of course, everybody backtests their strategies before losing money on them. Still, this book is a good introduction to popular strategies (especially in the "value" realm), and an overview of what sort of things you can learn from backtesting.

It is also fair to point out that O'Shaughnessy is far from consistent in his testing, and his charts and graphs tend to make up in volume what they lack in clarity. In the end, if you are learning the art of stock screening, you likely want this book. But you should plan to learn a lot more than what you get here.

A Scientific Approach to Stock Selection

Investment books taut a number of filtering strategies to find profitable stock investments. This book provides valuable information on what works and what doesn't work. The method is systematic and scientific. The book contains a lots of data, but less analysis. It remains, nonetheless, a valuable work and belongs on the shelf of most serious investors.

The one significant weakness in O'Shaugnessy method is that it does not reflect the impact of a more complete trading system that includes money management and technically-based entry and exit poitns. The investment plan used to compare stock selection strategies is to run a stock filter annually and to rebalance the portfolio into the 10, 25 or 50 stocks in the screen on an equal weight basis. There are no stop loss orders, no position sizing based on volatility, and no trade timing based on whether the security is trending down or in a trading range.

O'Shaughnessy concludes that value-oriented factors (price-to-sales, price-to-book, price-to-cash flow, price-to-earnings, and dividend yield) are much more important to stock performance long term than growth factors (earnings growth rate, return on equity, etc.), except for relative strength. While this may be true using the annual rebalance approach under which O'Shaughnessy tested the stock selection strategies, it may not be true in a more complete investment/trading system that includes technical entry and exit points to ensure that the buyer does not pay too much for a given stock or run to much downside risk, position sizing and stop orders. I would like to see these results re-run in conjunction with a basic objective trading system that includes a money management component (i.e., stop loss, risk-based position sizing, etc.). It may be that value factors are vital to O'Shaughnessy selection strategy because they serve as a proxy for the missing money management and timing components of a complete trading system.

Despite this weakness, the book is a significant contribution to our understanding of which fundamental factors are most important to selecting less risky, more profitable investments for the long term. Recommended.

Statistical conclusions presented with more brevity in other books

I bought this book because it was referred to in Ken Fisher's latest book and wanted to learn more about using statistical analysis to generate better returns in the market. The author does a great job of presenting his analyses and going through his rationale for why he carried them out the way he did. But whereas Fisher stressed doing statistical analysis with emphasis on generating trading tools to use in a forward looking fashion and to see which trading trends are useful under current market conditions, the author's analyses are performed looking back over decades of previous data with mainly a long term buy and hold strategy in mind. Consequently he arrives at simple value investing conclusions (ie, buy low P/E stocks, buy low P/S stocks, buy high E/P stocks, and avoid growth stocks with high P/Es). But again, in many cases he uses fairly long time periods for the analyses and assumes the use of a buy and hold strategy in which you can buy the stocks and then just let them sit in your portfolio whithout any worries for years to come. Also, he seems to like including the "tech wreck" disaster as an example of why overpriced growth stocks give poor returns to support his conclusions; again assuming you would buy tech stocks and then try to hold them for a long time even if they have a P/E of 200. Overall, gives good advice for people who don't want to do homework or trade often, but not of much value if you're an active trader and the idea of investing in low P/E stocks is presented better elsewhere.

Lof of governance, less SharePoint and no ITIL

This book is an introduction to governance of in principal any application - in this case SharePoint. The book is well-written and easy to read with many valuable checklists. I expected that this kind of book should adhere to ITIL nomenclature to streamline governance; unfortunately ITIL is never mentioned. The book is good for beginners that have never worked with governance, but the missing ITIL information diminishes its value for me. I expected more SharePoint specific governance information in the book.

Practical SharePoint 2013 Governance is the perfect starting point for enterprise teams looking to get a grasp on the beast that is SharePoint. Far too many times teams will simply roll out an organic SharePoint structure only to realize, after the point of no return, that they should have thought about governance for their SharePoint ecosystem before exposing it to their business users. This book gives practical how-to advice for establishing a general governance program as well as enacting SharePoint-specific governance structures to ensure that your SharePoint environment is well managed and well maintained.

From my perspective, I think think this book should be mandatory reading for any team considering a SharePoint roll-out.

Great addition to the series!

Wonderful novella addition to the series! Fallon is in love with a werewolf. The problem is he isn't just any werewolf, he is the leader and so he has to have a werewolf mate...which Fallon is not. Her choice seems simple. Become a werewolf and spend her life with Aiden or leave. The problem is the deadline and the line of women/wolves waiting impatiently to take her place!
I was soooo happy to revisit the vampire/werewolf/witch world that Salidas has created in our own little world. Fallon's story while short, was great. There is tension, love, passion, sex (and plenty of it!), pain, betrayal. It is all here and I was super excited to catch back up with a few of the others from the series and see how they are doing. While her choice seems simple, Fallon has a lot to contend with to get to her goal and even Aiden doesn't understand how much is standing in her way.
If you haven't read the series before this book, I rate it a 4/5. You will still enjoy it but you need to read the whole series.

LOVED IT!!!

Thanks so much for letting me read this book, you are an awesome author, Once I started this book, I could not put it down, it was awesome, I had to keep reading to find out what happens next, Fallon is a human who has fallen in love with a werewolf, and she has to make a decision to become a wolf like her love. This is my favorite book of the immortal series. Make sure you get your copy:):)

Amazingly Outstanding!!!

From the first page I was hooked. It had action, romance, and suspense.....it is outstanding!

Fallon is a human who happened to fall in love with a werewolf named Aiden. But Aiden is not just any werewolf; he is the Alpha, the current leader of the Olde Town Pack. Fallon wants to be with Aiden no matter what but it's more complicated than most people think. In order to stay with Aiden Fallon will have to make the ultimate change.....she will have to change her species. Not only does she have to worry about the change and staying with Aiden, she also has a problem with earning the loyalty and respect of the pack, especially with the females. Conflicted with what she wants and what other's tell her she needs to do, Fallon will have to make a choice that will change her future forever.

When I first saw this book I thought it looked very interesting and it is something I would enjoy reading. I was really happy when I started reading it and found that I loved it!! The plot was really unique and fun to read. I've read a lot of werewolf books before but this novella goes beyond that, the characters Aiden and Fallon were such amazing characters. Aiden was strong, passionate, witty, and an outstanding leader. Let's not forget his awesome mate Fallon. I loved Fallon character immediately, she was easy to relate to and a very brave person. I found myself looking at how much of the book I had left to read and wishing that it would magically slow down because it was that awesome of a story. After I read this story I looked up the author to see if she had another story about Fallon and Aiden and was pleasantly surprised that this story was a companion novella for Salidas' Immortalis Series. I was excited that the author had other books I could read and I intend to buy some of her books now!! Katie Salidas is an amazing author, I am definitely a fan of her writing now. If you are looking for a gripping, exciting, action and romance filled book you should read this. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
