All In All, A Very Good Book

Rick presents a very good case for a Gay-affirming God of the Bible. He provides a very detailed view of the various biblical passages directly and/or indirectly referencing homosexuality, and offers arguments I've previously not heard--a rare find in the age of regurgitated literature.

He provides PLENTY of evidence to support most of his claims. A few were a stretch; but the overall effort of the book, and various points it firmly establishes make this an excellent and almost absolutely necessary addition to your library. It's definitely worth the time and money.

A Great Exegetical Look into what the Bible says about same sex relationships!

This book is by far one of the best thought out and researched pieces of work on same sex relationships that I have encountered. I enjoy that it is written by someone who is a conservative Christian and therefore knows the arguments that conservatives/traditionalists use to condemn same sex relationships. I myself am also conservative and would grow tired of those in homosexual relationships simply saying that what they were doing was right because it was all about Love. To me that was never enough I needed to know what God really said on the matter because I knew that man's heart is deceitful above all things and that being right with God couldn't merely be based on feelings. That is why I really love this book it opens up scripture and explores the various nuances of the words used and the context in which these words were given to shed light on same sex relationships. If you are truly searching for an answer I encourage you to read this book! As a side note I prayed that while reading this book that God would not allow me to believe a lie or anything contrary to his word. I believe what Jesus said about God our heavenly father giving us what we asked for when he said that if a son asked his father for fish would the father instead give him a snake, likewise if men who are evil are able to give good gifts how much more will God give good things to those who ask him. I take Jesus up on that promise and simply ask that the truth on this matter be shown to me. i suggest you do it too and then read this book.

A Healing Experience

Rick Brentlinger's "Gay Christian 101: Spiritual Self-Defense For Gay Christians" has gone a long way in helping me heal from the condemnation and judgment I experienced from the Pentacostal Free Will Baptist Church I was brought up in. It is truly amazing how the scriptures have been taken out of context to condemn a large group of people. Brentlinger provides a detailed analysis of how certain scriptures have been interpretted throughout history and points out that "Scripture cannot mean now, what it did not mean then". That is the best and strongest argument one could make. He delves deep into the scripture and puts it in it's context. The message I got from the book is that God truly does love me even though I am gay and that I can have a loving relationship with someone of my own sex and a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ. This is the best book on the subject I have read. If you have gay family or friends who have turned away from God due to feeling that they are condemned to hell for being who they were born to be, I strongly urge you to give them a copy of this book. It will go a long way of combating the condemnation and judgment tape that plays over and over for many. Mr. Brentlinger thanks for this special gift to us

Eleanor agrees to have him write to her and John Henry reassures her that he will be good to her, but that he would spank her if she breaks his rules. She agrees to marry him and comes west. When she gets there, she is sick, but she still agrees to go through the marriage ceremony. She takes a few days to get better and then starts to work in the house. That night, he comes in and tells her that she will get a preventative spanking so that she will know that she does not want to earn one. He spanks hard and she is very sore. But, they still consummate their marriage that night. He also tells her that she needs to learn how to do stuff around the ranch. And so, he proceeds to teach her how to ride a horse, clean out a barn, feed the chickens, milk the cows, etc. Of course, she gets many spanking along the way. The spankings are hot and, for the most part, deserved. I just didn’t feel the love between them and I think that John Henry found excuses to spank her. I give this story 3 stars.

Eleanor knew what she was getting into before she committed to John Henry. He had written her to let her know he was willing to marry her, but that he was a very busy rancher who spanked for discipline. What follows are glimpses into Eleanor’s sex life that seem to evolve around her being disciplined. Some of the scenes felt contrived, like the gossiping one. I never got to feel for either character outside of sex, so I never understood how they came to love each other so dearly, but it is fantasy and it’s what we want to believe which makes it a good story.

Could not put it down, kept my interest from start to finish. Very good plot, great character interaction. I like that it has some excitement and some history, but it wasn't allowed to totally break them apart hat any time. Lots of discipline and hot scenes.

About the Author
David Kroenke has been a sailor since 1971 and currently owns a Mason 44. About the Author
Wayne Weiten is a graduate of Bradley University and received his Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Illinois, Chicago in 1981. He has taught at the College of DuPage and Santa Clara University, and currently teaches at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He has received distinguished teaching awards from Division Two of the American Psychological Association (APA) and from the College of DuPage. He is a Fellow of Divisions 1, 2, and 8 of the American Psychological Association and a Fellow of the Midwestern Psychological Association. In 1991, he helped chair the APA National Conference on Enhancing the Quality of Undergraduate Education in Psychology. He is a former President of the Society for the Teaching of Psychology and the Rocky Mountain Psychological Association. In 2006, one of the five national teaching awards given annually by the Society for the Teaching of Psychology was named in his honor. Weiten has conducted research on a wide range of topics, including educational measurement, jury decision-making, attribution theory, pressure as a form of stress, and the technology of textbooks. He is also the co-author of PSYCHOLOGY APPLIED TO MODERN LIFE: ADJUSTMENT IN THE 21st CENTURY (with Dana S. Dunn and Elizabeth Yost Hammer, Cengage, 2015, 11th Edition). Weiten has created an educational CD-ROM titled PsykTrek: A Multimedia Introduction to Psychology and he recently co-authored a chapter on the Introductory Psychology course for THE OXFORD HANDBOOK OF PSYCHOLOGY EDUCATION (Weiten & Houska, 2015).

Dana S. Dunn earned his B. A. in psychology from Carnegie Mellon and received his Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Virginia. He is currently professor of psychology and Director of the Learning in Common Curriculum at Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA. He chaired the Psychology Department at Moravian for six years. A Fellow of the American Psychological Science (APS), Dunn served as President of the Society for the Teaching of Psychology in 2010. A frequent speaker at national and regional disciplinary conferences, Dunn has written numerous articles, chapters, and book reviews concerning his areas of research interest: the teaching of psychology, social psychology, rehabilitation psychology, and educational assessment. He is the author or editor for 13 books, including _The Practical Researcher_ (2010), _Research Methods for Social Psychology_ (2009), and _A Short Guide to Writing about Psychology_ (2011).

Elizabeth Hammer earned her B.S. in psychology from Troy State University and received her Ph.D. in social psychology from Tulane University. She is currently Kellogg Professor in Teaching in the Psychology Department and director of the center for the Advancement of Teaching at Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans. She is a Fellow of Division Two of the American Psychological Association (APA) and is a past President of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology. Recently, she was elected as treasurer for the Society for the Teaching of Psychology. She is passionate about teaching and has published on collaborative learning, service learning, the application of social psychological theories to the classroom, and mentoring students. After her experience with Hurricane Katrina, she developed a Psychology of Disasters course.

Adequate

this was a text book for psychology at Baker College in Port Huron in Chonda Stimer's class. I found it to be the correct book. Beyond that, it has a lot of useful contemporary (post 9/11) information that is quite useful. Be sure to get the workbook as well. As a textbook, it is actually a very interesting book and no sleeper, as so many text's tend to be.

PSY135- The Psychology of Adjustment Textbook

This is a very well written book, considering it is college text. There is an abundance of useful information, but it's not just knowledge for graduate school. It also teaches everyday applications.
If you are a psychology junky like me and also read these kind of books for fun, I highly suggest it.
